Club selection of December 2019 - A standout region with muscular teas that just do not relent, Zhang Lang has long been another of the ‘character-regions’ that Jeff has returned to for years to source. Ideal conditions and humidity levels along with relative isolation have not changed much in the past decade. Zhang Lang’s teas reflect so much that is good in a Sheng Puerh: terroir. Solid raw materials and great unchanged production methods help retain so much of the soil and earth from where this has been harvested. This tea is a genuine high altitude offering from approximately 1700 metres and the bushes that have provided the leaves are around 100 years old. Another of our late Spring offerings. Tasting Notes - Long flavour notes, strength that seems unrelenting and some leathery or malty notes that soften the vegetal and mineral elements, this tea is a great ‘first of the day’ bit of tonic. No astringency whatsoever it is a tea that can be consumed now or aged. It carries a nice bit of power for the winter season. One of our favourites over the years because of the fact that the Zhang Lang has retained so much of the notes that drew us to it in the first place.
