Club selection of July 2017 - From the village of Ban Po, this fresh harvest has all of the virtues of the Nannuo region teas. Light without bitterness and having wonderful vegetal tang from the clay rich soils of Nannuo, this is a classic young Puerh. Both the ancient tree harvests and the younger bush harvests carry easy and fragrant tones. The local Hani people are known for cooking raw tea leaves within a bamboo husk, over a fire. The result is a slightly smoky infusion with some sweetness that washes through the mouth…tea can be had in a wide gamut of ways. Discover Ban Po Sheng tea even further with Jeff.
Tasting Notes - More goodness from clay rich soils, this Ban Po offering comes from soil that is inundated with light orange clay. Leaves from the region generally come in fragrant and soft tones that stay on the tongue for a good long while. Don’t be afraid to infuse this mild tea slightly longer if you want a little more potency. This is a great example of a tea that is forgiving – one can pull back easily on infusion and strength, or give it some more time infusing (or simply add some more leaves) to add some power.
