Collector Offering Summer 2019 - A ‘bud-heavy’ beauty from ancient trees from a region that our procurer loves, Naka, this offering is a freshly caked 2018, Spring Sheng, bristling with fresh clean tones. The greater Meng Song region, in which Naka rests, is one of the highest Puerh growing regions in Yunnan, cresting at close to 2400 metres, and rates as one of the most ancient sources of the leaf. What stands out in this particular Naka is the percentage of lighter coloured buds within the cake which add some floral power to the offering. Naka, like the entire Meng Song mountain region generally is known for strength and even with this higher-end bud content, still carries some of the wonderful inherent power in it. Tasting Notes - Soft and powerful with long-lasting notes of floral and slight malt, this Naka is one of a very few that contain such high bud content from ancient trees. Superb balance with only a hint of astringency, it is a tea that rolls through the mouth with wave after wave of flavor. It is a tea that will reveal all of its possibilities with the mineral content in successive infusions. A superb tea to age or to sip right now and as an example of a fresh Sheng, it is surprisingly soft and long in the mouth. We do not advocate ageing all teas in the hope that they become ‘better’. We subscribe to what many locals in Yunnan believe…that a great Puerh comes into itself at about 3-5 years max. One doesn’t need to age a tea and flavors are often something almost entirely subjective.
