Collector Offering Fall 2019 - Large mature leaves combining with mid-sized and smaller bud sizes, this is a classic offering from one of the fabled Puerh zones of tea cultivation and production. Yiwu refers to an area which encapsulates the 4 principle townships of Man-luo, Man-sa, Ma-hei, and Yi-tian. Yiwu itself is part of Mang-la County which is tucked into the mountain regions bordering Laos and southern Yunnan province. The region’s leaves are generally smaller than the Menghai varietals further west in Yunnan, and for centuries teas from the region were certified as a kind of tribute tea and shipped directly by caravan north to either Beijing or Tibet, or conversely south into what is now Vietnam and other regions in Southeast Asia. Discover this Yiwu tea even further with Jeff.
This is a larger cake than our typical offering; 357-gram cake. It's packaged in a gift box making it a great gift for any puerh lover.
Tasting Notes - Different soils, different leaves, different hands all lead to a different result. The biggest notable difference with Yiwu is the leaf size. Slightly smaller than its kin further west in Yunnan, the leaves offer up a slightly different flavor profile. Mild and subtle in the first half of the mouth, the light honey and melon flavor notes are notable in the second half of the mouth, lasting long and carrying through to a soft but beautifully rich finish. It is said amongst locals that Yiwu teas take slightly longer to age, though this will always be a subjective question for each tea and for each sipper. Generally light and subtle in flavor, the Yiwu can benefit (for those inclined for a stronger infusion) from slightly longer infusion times and/or slightly more leaves.
