Club selection of December 2013 - JalamTeas first ‘non-Puerh’, this red tea (called ‘red’ in China and often referred to as ‘black’ in the west) is a smooth tea, with some light hints of fruit, and very little astringency or bitterness. This is a great winter tea and we urge you to enjoy without any additions (to begin with) to feel the thicker tannin feeling that this has in the mouth. The Dien Hong uses younger tea bushes and has a stunning amber colour in the cup. Our Dien Hong is also notable for having less caffeine than most Indian black teas.

Tasting Notes - While Dien Hong (often called Golden Tips or Yunnan Gold) sometimes needs slight less than boiling water because of its high ‘end bud’ count, our own Dien Hong has a mix of both young buds and more mature leaves. We suggest using fully boiled water and experimenting slightly with infusion times. One rinse will rid the tea of its very minimal bitter tangs. Following that infusion times should range between 10- 15 seconds or more and then increasing as necessary.
