Club selection of December 2017 - A kind of ‘anytime tea’, Zhang Lang carries strength forward and has softened and developed beautifully from its initial harvest in the Spring of 2015. This Sheng offering is a wonderful blend of single origin leaves and a two and a half year period to settle and develop. The region is known for its superb raw materials and pristine soils and environments. A genuine high mountain Puerh with leaves from 30+ year old bushes at 1700 metres the Zhang Land is a consistent favourite of both our friends and clients. Great humidity and temperatures contribute to ideal environments for tea to grow, just east of the Yunnan-Myanmar border. Discover this Zhang Lang Sheng tea even further with Jeff.
Tasting Notes - Great raw materials and soil of the region contribute to this tea’s flavor make up and content, but the leaves still need competent hands. Given that this offering has had over 2 years to age in a dry storage (we prefer dry to humid storage), the tea has softened slightly carrying its powerful notes forward. Long vegetal and honey notes have softened slightly into more of a malt flavor line and some of the astringency (natural and considered a ‘good’ thing in moderation) has morphed into a thicker more full body. We think this an excellent morning tea considering its ‘softening’ over time. Though not an ‘old tea’ the Zhang Lang offers up a great example of a tea that is transitioning into a more settled example of a raw Puerh.
