Club selection of August 2014 - A regular on Jeff’s menu, He Kai unfermented Puerh is from a region that is on the way into the Bulang Mountain range occupied by the Lahu and Dai peoples. It is a sumptuous tea with strength that locals say has a hint of orchid in it. Orchids in the region grow wild and often fuse themselves onto the tea bushes and trees. The region is well known for its ancient tea trees and long tea cultivation traditions. The Lahu people are known to have great raw materials tea-wise, but haven’t always produced great teas. Our He Kai is a favourite of Jeff’s for its strength and is a tea that ‘they got entirely right in production’. An excellent ageing tea, it softens only slightly over time making it a classic. Discover He Kai tea even further with Jeff.

Tasting Notes - A powerful tea with great flavours and punch this is a tea that will age well. Many local drinkers call it the ‘perfect’ tea because of its well-rounded character and its unambiguous flavour. It is a tea favoured by Korean buyers and drinkers who come to buy in person. Experimentation with infusion times is always recommended but this tea is already powerful, so an adherence to the rough guidelines is suggested for the initial preparations. It is a tea to be enjoyed when in need of something to “wake up both the mouth and mind” in Jeff’s words.
