Club selection of July 2016 - Bulang Mountain known for so many great offerings is the source for this raw Purple Leaf Puerh. Purple leaves come about through a reaction to too much heat or sunlight and can come from any Puerh-growing region. The ‘coloring’ is a reaction where the antioxidant and pigment Anthocyanin develops to protect the leaves from UV rays. The Bulang people of Lao Ma Er are to be thanked for these leaves and cultivation. Bulang villages, often high up in the mountains, are testaments to animist beliefs and teas that have wonderful vegetal bite. Discover this Purple Leaf tea even further with Jeff.
Tasting Notes - Wonderful long tannin notes that hang in the mouth. The coppery colour might seem dark but experiment with infusion times as this tea can handle some longer infusion times. While the Purple Leaf will retain some of the natural vegetal hints that raw Puerhs have, there is less of the astringency. Smooth with some great tones more associated with classic red or black teas.
