October: He Kai Sheng

Club selection of October 2015 - He Kai has become a staple that we’re proud to continue to offer, albeit in different ‘vintages’. Lying at the base of the Bulang Mountains the He Kai area is a rich hotbed of Lahu, Dai and Hani cultures with long fingers of history steeped in tea. The young bushes of this present He Kai offerings can claim to originate from the nearby ancient tea forests which remain some of the finest and most sought after ‘ancient tree teas’. The Lahu minority who produce our Jalamteas’ He Kai love their teas raw with bite, while trailing off nicely with some hints of orchid. Jeff believes that He Kai’s are a tea that should appear at least once a year on our annual menu. Discover this He Kai tea even further with Jeff.

Tasting Notes - He Kai never lacks for full bodied notes a wide hit in the mouth and the fact that there was high heat and that this tea was left in the sun slightly more than usual, it will have even that much more punch. As we have noted before, it is a tea favored by Korean and other Asian buyers and it remains so. A wonderful tea that (along with our Naka and Bad offerings) offers up a great example of a Puerh at its best: wide flavor notes, a slight floral edge to the vegetal green blast, and a great clean finish.

SOLD OUT - We have sold out of these tea cakes. Please contact us if you wish to make a wholesale order.
