October: Zhi Ye (Purple Leaf)

Club selection of October 2013 - A special offering of the rare but much heralded Purple Leaf (Zhi Ye) Puerh that is rarely mentioned even within Puerh’s circles. A somewhat different varietal from the more standard ‘Yunnan big-leaf Assamica’, the leaves of this plant run a dark and almost burgundy colour and offer a smooth taste and darker amber fluid. It has less of the astringency and vegetal flavours that mark out unfermented green (sheng) Puerhs. Discover Purple Leaf tea even further with Jeff.

Tasting Notes - This tea’s essences and flavors, and what makes it unique will immediately be obvious. Being a different varietal, it is still produced identically to other Puerhs but its flavours are far wider and less specific to some of our previous vegetal offerings of newly picked unfermented Puerhs. Locals refer to it as the tea that is good for blood pressure. Far less of this tea is found in markets, tea shops, or even in the tea forests themselves.

SOLD OUT - We have sold out of this tea. Please contact us if you wish to make a wholesale order.
